How to play
- There are no turns. Select one of your pieces, then select its destination. Several pieces can move at once.
- Pieces use familiar chess movement. Standard travels one square each second; after a move finishes or is blocked, that piece rests for 10 seconds. Lightning uses 0.2 seconds per square and a 2-second rest.
- Combat happens on square arrivals. You can dodge by leaving before an attacker arrives. Opposing moves into the same square or through one another collide: the earlier-started move wins. Moves started at exactly the same time destroy each other. Knights jump directly to their destination in two square-times.
- Allied pieces block one another. A capture ends the attacking move. A pawn moves forward without capturing and captures diagonally; it can advance two squares on its first move. A pawn reaching the far edge becomes a queen. Castling and en passant are not part of this first rules version.
- Capture a king to eliminate that army. Its remaining pieces leave the board without counting as kills. There is no check or checkmate. The last surviving team wins; no surviving team is a draw.
- In free-for-all, every army is an opponent and placement follows elimination order. Simultaneous eliminations tie. In 2v2, opposite armies are allies; both teammates share the team result. In 1v3, the first seat controls one army against three allied armies, without compensation.
- You may queue one move while a piece rests. Select it and choose another destination to replace that move, or use Cancel queued move. A queued move is checked again when the piece is ready. Moving pieces cannot change their route.
- Piece kills are shown for every player, with team totals in team games. Kills do not change the winner or skill rating. These private games are unranked.
- Leaving eliminates your army immediately. A disconnected player has 30 seconds to return while play continues; after that their army is eliminated. Losing one army does not end the game while opposing teams remain.
Keyboard: Tab to a square, then use arrow keys to move focus. Enter or Space selects a piece or destination. Escape clears selection. Cancel queued move removes a selected resting piece’s queued move.
About
An original GGCHILL real-time chess game for solo play against computers and private remote play. Choose 1v1, four-player free-for-all, 2v2, or the asymmetric 1v3 challenge. Each player controls one army. Standard and Lightning offer different movement and recovery speeds. Ranked uses Standard-speed 1v1 against another signed-in player. Solo and private games are unranked; kills are match statistics.
